Want to travel to Capri and bring your pet along with you? We've created this helpful guide with tips and information for planning a trip to Capri with your dog or other pet.
Hydrofoils and ferries with a pet
You can bring pets of any size on hydrofoils and ferries to Capri. You'll need to bring all your pet's health documents with you, including their vaccination record as well as a leash and a muzzle for dogs. Bringing a dog on a hydrofoil or ferry requires a supplementary payment, and the amount varies depending on the ferry company. Pets that don't require a leash and a muzzle must be transported in an appropriate carrier.
Public transport in Capri with your pet: bus and funicular
Dogs are permitted on public transport in Capri as long as they have a muzzle and remain on a leash. No additional ticket is required for pets on public buses on Capri. However, bringing your dog on the funicular requires a special ticket.
Capri boat tours with a dog
Most private boat tours will welcome your dog on board. Some group tours may also allow you to bring your dog, so check in advance of booking to confirm.
Here are the Capri boat companies that welcome dogs on board:
Motoscafisti Capri (any size dog)
Laser Capri (small dogs only)
HP Capri (small dogs only)
All private boat companies accept small pets on board.
Group tours that depart from Sorrento and Positano do not permit pets on board. As an alternative, you can take a hydrofoil to Capri from Sorrento or Positano, and tour the island with one of the local companies listed above that accept dogs on board.
Beaches
Visitors to Capri who wish to bring their dog to the beach with them will be disappointed, as dogs aren't allowed on Capri beaches. The beaches on Capri are small and crowded, so they aren't suitable for bringing dogs. One alternative, however, is to bring your dog for a walk on the beach in the early morning or later in the evening, before sunbathers have arrived or after they've left for the day.
Monuments and attractions
Dogs are allowed at the following tourist attractions:
Grotta Azzurra - Blue Grotto (the boat to enter the grotto is very small, so only pets that can be held in the owner's arms are allowed on board. Larger animals can wait outside the entrance, however, as the tour is very brief).
