Contemporary design and lifestyle, Italian island style

  1. Italian interior design in a 17th century convent
  2. Five star services in a two suite retreat
  3. The historic center of Anacapri on your doorstep

Caprisuite is the latest addition to the growing number of incredibly stylish hotels and maisons de charme hidden away amidst the peaceful lanes of the sleepy little town of Anacapri.

Contemporary convent

Occupying part of a 17th century edifice which originally served as the convent of the adjacent Church of San Michele, Anacapri's most highly-quoted monument, Caprisuite is a miniature boutique hotel in which the island's traditional architecture combines with unique items of designer furniture and contemporary art to produce a surprisingly modern, yet undeniably Mediterranean, living environment.

Designer touches

Cocooned within the centuries-old walls of the old convent, Caprisuite's sitting room provides a unique setting for Neapolitan photographer, Luciano Romano,'s powerful images; Gaetano Pesce's silicon vases; Charles and Ray Eames coat hangers and iconic items of Italian designer furniture, such as Paolo Piva's steel and glass coffee table.

Two suite retreat

Via the lounge, guests access the hotel's two suites, the smallest of which features brightly colored bed and bath linen created by the famed textile designer Livio de Simone, and faces onto a delightful little garden.

The larger suite has a minimalist style four poster bed and a small pool, created in a niche cut into the thick stone walls. Then there is the bathroom, complete with Pompeian style frescoes and fabulous anthracite resin shower.

The superior suite opens onto an internal courtyard, dominated by a somewhat surreal looking, eight meter high shelving unit, stacked with vases of prickly pear

Tailor-made treats

A delicious breakfast of freshly baked brioche and strong Italian coffee is served all day long, on the loggia which once served as passageway between the convent and the Church of San Michele.

Offering both the intimacy of a private home and five star hotel customer care, Caprisuite's concierge will organize a boat trip, the services of a personal chef, or a designer shopping tour, all at the drop of a hat.

On request, guests will even find a selection of the island's gastronomic delicacies waiting for them in their suite on arrival!

If you are looking for something chic and personalised, Capri Suite is exactly that. An interesting monastic space that has been cleverly converted into two suites- ideal if you take over the whole thing with 2 couples as you can play house (like you life is something out of Elle Deco). Host Michela was a delight- gorgeous breakfast, useful local knowledge, immaculate english and arranged a heavenly round-island boat trip for us. In a place that has the potential to feel hectic and touristy, the Capri Suite experience felt like a unique magical oasis and provided something inspiring from every angle (just as inspiring as any sea view)- a lot more than a bed for the night.

I guess expectations were to high!

I had seen pictures, articles about this place in several magazines, websites, before I finally booked it, so I guess I was really looking forward to finally staying there. but somehow , when I actually got there, it was not at all what I was hoping for. the only good aspect of it was I booked in annacapri instead of capri, which is a lot quieter and nicer in may ways! as per the B&B , the building itself was interesting and our room was massive , however the interior designer just tried to wow common travellers rather than really thinking any of his suggestions is actually adding value to the space. the bathroom was massive and nice, and yet you did not know where to put ur shampoos and other bottles. water was all over the floor after each shower as they had decided there s no need for the shower screen. general cleanness of the room was really beyond disappointing. nowadays in a luxary b&b in Europe you kind of think they should keep it clean. a bath tub under the window in the bedroom, only made it impossible to enjoy the window! and if you have problem with damp, there will be plenty of it there! the lady managing it however is very nice and friendly. breakfast was very simple, I m all for a simple breakfast but this one was a bit disappointing, every time asking for water to come to ur table rather than just have it! or if your preferred breakfast is cornetto perhaps a basket of mix of few of them would have looked more appealing rather than just 1 on your plate! anyhow, the island is magnificent so you don t really stay in for long!

The sacred and the profane.

Born from the old cloister of St Michele Church in Anacapri, this place represents the perfect meltdown among the sacred nature of the building that hosts it, the luxury of its details and the minimalism that the most sophisticated tourist should find in Anacapri (that is not Capri, of course). The most representative sign of this fusion are the original tiles, in the huge bathroom of one (the biggest) out of the two rooms, that continue, magically, from the church neighboring to the vaulted ceilings going through the frescoes walls. The furniture is absolutely over and over any comparison with the most luxury hotel on the island with design lamps, sofas, beds from the trendiest and iconographic designers, from the modernists to the contemporary ones, keeping the contact with the wilder nature of Anacapri with a palette of colors that goes from the white to the blue through the yellow of the lemons. This is absolutely a masterpiece of the already affirmed architect and manager of Caprisuite, Giuliano Andrea dell'Uva. Aplacewheretogo!

Coolest thing about Capri

The Caprisuite hotel is such a stunning design hotel. As an interior designer I am always on the lookout for design hotels at reasonable prices. The hotel creates such a great environment we spent most of our time in the hotel! Capri was unbelievably touristy with an average age of travelers in their mid 40s. The yellow room is quite small however so if you can afford it I strongly recommend the blue room.

Map

In the heart of Anacapri, in what was once the convent of the Chiesa di San Michele, church famous for its majolica pavement depicting the Expulsion of Adam and Eve, Caprisuite is the perfect base for those wishing to explore this, the quietest and, arguably, most exclusive part of the island of Capri.

Right bang in the center of the picturesque historic center of Anacapri, Caprisuite is just a few meters away from the Casa Rossa museum and any number of bars and restaurants.

The Axel Munthe museum house and the chairlift to Monte Solaro are both within easy walking distance. The Grotta Azzurra, the island's beaches and Capri's Piazzetta are all just a short bus or taxi ride away.
